Our two veterinarians perform a wide range of routine and soft-tissue surgeries, including spays, neuters and mass removals. They have over 50 years of combined experience performing veterinary surgeries.
We encourage pet owners to be informed about their pet’s surgery and the post-operative care needed for a full and speedy recovery. Before a pet undergoes surgery, we provide each client with pre-operative and post-operative information and make sure to address any questions they may have. We also require blood testing before surgery to determine if a pet can safely undergo anesthesia, and so that we can tailor the anesthesia protocol to that pet. Each surgery patient will have an IV catheter placed so that fluids can be given intravenously throughout the surgical procedure. We closely monitor blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate and an EKG, carbon dioxide levels in the blood, oxygen saturation of the blood, and body temperature throughout surgery. We also observe the pet for at least an hour after the surgery is completed to make sure that recovery is going smoothly.
It is important to us that our clients understand their pets’ surgical options and are comfortable with any temporary or permanent changes to their pet’s care. We always check in with our clients following a pet’s surgery, so that we can be sure that the pet is recovering and adjust our plan of care accordingly.
Every surgery is performed at a local Twin Cities veterinary clinic. We choose to perform surgeries at a clinic rather than in our vans so that we can monitor each of our patients for an adequate amount of time after surgery. We wholeheartedly believe that this is the safest option for our patients as they recover from anesthesia. If needed, our veterinarians can provide pet transportation to and from the clinic. Pets are always able to go home the same day as surgery.
