All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth

Linda Lou, Blog Dog here to discuss something that I never took seriously. Until this past Monday.

Monday morning started kind of weird, with my papa only giving me a small amount of food. He added in some drops of medicine, which got my guard up. The food still tasted yummy though, so I didn’t complain. He did the same for my sisters too. We all knew something was brewing, but we weren’t sure what. Papa went to work like normal, and we hopped back into bed with mom.

When mom’s alarm went off, she got ready to go to work and said “Let’s go ladies!” like she does every morning. We headed out the door. The exit to the office came and went, and we ended up at a doggie hospital. I looked at my sisters and they looked just as concerned as I did. I mean, why were we here??

We soon found out. Mom had scheduled us for a teeth cleaning. The House Paws technicians, Michon and Nikki, got us all prepped for surgery, shaving our arms and putting in IV catheters. It sounds scarier than it really was. Michon and Nikki were really nice to us. Then Dr. Ann gave us something to make us sleepy. The last thing I remember was my mom talking to me, telling me that I was a good dog, and then I was awake again.

When I woke up, half of my mouth was numb. Dr Ann had to take out ALL of my top nibblers AND one of my top fangs. I was very sad that this happened. Especially when I found out later that none of my sisters had that many teeth taken out. But then I realized that it really was my fault. My mom brushes our teeth (because we can’t do it ourselves – no thumbs) but I had always put up such a fuss when she tried to brush the front ones and wouldn’t talk to her for hours afterwards. My nibblers did not get brushed as well as they should have, and they got loose.

Once I can have my teeth brushed again (I need to wait 2 weeks from my dental) I will let mom brush ALL of the teeth I have left. I don’t want to lose any more. Home dental care is so important. I would encourage all humans to take a look at our tooth brushing guide (click here) and also the home dental care sheets (click here and here) and do the very best you can for your pets. A clean healthy mouth means a healthy happy pet!

Now, if dogs could only wear dentures….

P.S. My mom likes to take pictures of me, and I’ve gotta say, I have some major modeling potential. Check out some of my poses below – I used to have a beautiful set of teeth!
I used to have quite the set of chompers!
Working with a few less teeth these days...
I'm still pretty darn cute though!
